Using scraps and copic coloring

I practiced my copic coloring again – I’m a total beginner and really have a hard time staying within the lines though. Perhaps I should cheat and just thicken all the black lines of my digital stamps…but it seems like that would be giving up! I do know that I like the regular Copic markers rather than the ciao, because I like the small hard tip, instead of the brush tip. So, I don’t always want to have to cut out my colored images, but if I can’t stay in the lines it really does present a problem. So this time I tried coloring the background with my copic markers as well and creating variations with the colorless blender – which actually takes away color. In the end I distressed the little image a bit to go with my imperfect coloring. I think all in all it turned out pretty cute in the end! I realized also that my white gel pen creates a resist for the copic ink…interesting to experiment with in the future. I created this card for the digital tuesday challenge of using scraps. See all those scraps of paper to create the background – just stapled in place?  Hope you like it!

    Thanks so much everyone!

Micki – The background I colored in with copic…then I started swirling around with the colorless blender to make a weird mixed up texture…totally by accident!

Cute cute cute! When I want a smaller tip than the Sketch offers, I use Prismacolor or Bic Markers. You can also dab a little bit of colorless blender liquid (or alcohol based hand sanitizer – the gel kind) onto fabric like denim and then dab it onto your image to a create a neat textured background effect.

I just love it, too! I love the way you all rally and give such great love and encouragement! I hope to tackle some coloring myself, but only have the Bic markits so far – and now my new Neenah paper (thanks, Micki!) Forward to victory! :P

Love your use of scraps. I don’t really use my Copics much now, I use my polychromos pencils more but I find that when I do colour with them, the paper that I use makes a huge difference and if I have a good paper my ink doesn’t bleed over the edges :) Any HOT pressed paper is good becuase it is really smooth :)
Thanks for joining us at Digital Tuesday this week.
