Using Digital Materials…

I finally got around to using my own digital stamps and designs (check out my freebies) as well as some of the freebies from Funky Fairy Inspirations.  It’s exciting to be able to create my own designs and using them to realize some type of project.  So much to explore…just need time to do it all!  Here’s what I created today…

Poetry Sentiments as Greeting Card Verses

I happened upon a card verse blog which offers a huge collection of poems offered as free card verses for all of us to use in our correspondences.  It is certainly inspiring to see someone who is putting their emotions onto paper (or on a blog in this case) that incidentally is beneficial to those of us who are poetically challenged!  You should definitely check out that blog and see if you can incorporate the poems into your greeting cards and notes written to family and friends.  Sadly, it seems not to have been updated in a while but does have a nice archive of posts readily available.

Thinking a bit more on the subject of poetry sentiments also made me realize that an easily accessible source of ideas for card verses would be the poetry section of your favorite library or bookstore.  You can peruse the classics or explore modern publications and take snippets to use in your correspondences.  Obviously, published poetry cannot be resold in greeting cards commercially without licensing and a bunch of lawyers – but you can definitely use it in your personal card making projects.  Sometimes I find a poem is written so well, it says exactly what I wanted to say, but in the perfect way rather than my roundabout talk-writing style.  Other times I use snippets of poems to get me started into my own writing.  Think of it as quoting someone and then moving into your explanation and internal thoughts.

In the spirit of poetry and giving out free greeting card verses for all to use, I came up with this cute little limerick rhyme (not comical though).  Please enjoy and don’t forget to get back to paper and handwrite personal notes every so often!

Daydreaming about my love all day

Sometimes I just don’t know what to say

But one thing is for sure

Our feelings are so pure

We can surely let them lead the way…

My Sentiments Exactly – Alternative Greeting Card Verses

I found a great article online which offers alternative greeting card verses.  What do I mean by alternative?  Well, the non-traditional events that may not exactly be something to celebrate, but definitely something you would correspondence with friends about at one point or another.  Why not do it in a creative way?  Check out these interesting greeting card sayings in the My Sentiments Exactly article.

The author refers to the greetings as “dumpee cards” because the verses are all about getting dumped by your previous significant other.  They are all pretty humorous ways to help cheer up your girlfriends during this unhappy time.  I think you could alter the verses a bit to make them just as funny and effective for your guy friends as well!  Let me know if you have a great story regarding alternative greeting card verses and how family and friends have responded!

The Top 5 Greeting Card Verses and Poem Resources

There are a multitude of websites and online resources on the Internet to help you get started in writing correspondences.  You can use them as a starting point to inspire your own compositions or use them straight on the front of cards or handwritten notes to augment your personal message.  Here is a list of the top resources I go to when searching for ideas:

Making-Greeting-Cards offers a multitude of card verses, quotations and poems organized by holiday and type for easy access.  You can definitely jump start your writing from this resource.

Verses 4 Card is an entire site dedicated to verses and poems for all occasion.  It is also organized for easy access to whatever type of greeting you are searching for.  At the end of the various quotations at the bottom of the webpage you will usually find an example handmade card for inspiration of designs and colors.  This is a great resource that leads to many other websites.

Poem Source gives you poems, organized by event type.  I find it very nice and neatly organized and displayed which makes it easy to copy the poems for use.

Greeting Island also offers a nice little collection of verses for use, but also includes a section for printable items if you need a quick print out for your next correspondence.

Heavens Inspirations offers a free Christian card verses section and also leads to many other related sites with more resources.  Definitely something to check out.

I hope the above resources give you a good start and push in the “write” direction – get back to paper and say hello to your family and friends with your personal creations!

Creative Memories Quotes Collection

I have been working on some projects off of the Creative Memories website and noticed that they have a great collection of quotes!  It’s the perfect jumping off point to help you create your own greeting cards and notes.

I do know some folks who think that using quotes is very impersonal and do not care for them at all.  I certainly don’t fall into any extreme camp of thought.  I believe that whatever you choose is a reflection of your feelings at the time, there is no right or wrong.  Criticism in that respect doesn’t seem to help further anything but bad feelings.  I say, do what you feel is good for you and your particular purpose.  I use quotes many times over for various projects and many times they help me focus my sentiments for the piece.  There are also times that I just write what I feel.  I think either way is great, because you are communicating and getting back to paper, no matter what!  So go ahead and check out the Creative Memories Quotes Collection!

How to Get a Job Writing Greeting Card Verses

I always stop by the cards aisles at stores to check out the latest greatest greetings cards to send to family and friends.  I find that browsing can give you great inspiration for making your own cards, too!  Of course, you often come across some greetings that aren’t so great or original.  Did you ever feel that you could write just as inspiring messages for all to enjoy?

eHow.com has a great article outlining one way to get yourself into the greeting card verse writing world.  I realize that no industry is easy to get into when you are starting from scratch, but I think like most things – hard work will pay off if you really want to do it!  I myself would one day love to have an actual published card – one way or another – however you would like to define that type of success.  It reminds me a bit of the same idea in an Adam Sandler movie… he finally got one greeting card published at the very end…

No matter what, have fun with it and get back to writing to your family and friends.  Whether your verses are rejected or finally published in the end, you can always use them in your own correspondences!

Thinking of You Greeting Card Verses

Need inspiration for your cards and letters? Here are some “Thinking of You” greeting card verses and poems as samples and examples for you to expand on in your correspondences. Feel free to contribute to the pool of ideas for all our readers in the comments area.

Example Greeting Card Verses

Just a note to say hello, how are you?

Hi! I just wanted to send you a little note and let you know that I was thinking of you.

Someone remembers, someone cares. Your name is whispered in someone’s prayers.

You may be out of my sight, but never out of my mind. Thinking of You!

Tucked inside these pages are thoughts from afar…

Just wanted to let you know I’m thinking of you! Do you remember the time…

Thinking about you makes me laugh/smile/remember…

Thinking about you is one of my favorite “thinks” to do…

My thoughts are free to go anywhere, but they often head in your direction.

How did it get so late so soon?
It’s night before it’s afternoon.
December is here before it’s June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?
~Dr. Seuss
